Advocate Community Service

Advocate is a community service platform that provides a curated event market with the power of modern social media sharing.

I founded Advocate in the fall of 2013 amidst rising high school graduation & college service requirements combined with a nationally declining volunteerism rate. Meanwhile, the way community service is marketed and carried out has not fundamentally changed in the last three decades. Advocate gives non-profits and volunteers a simple way to post and share service experiences, making community service fun, easy, & accessible.

In the spring, we went through the SE Greenhouse Incubator program, constructing a business plan, site architecture, and user interface for the platform. In early 2014 we were awarded funds from the Brown Seed Grant and won a  space RISD In Residence Program. As we progressed I assembled and managed a team responsible for product design, code development, and public relations.

In September 2014 we launched a beta in Juanita Sanchez Educational Complex, partnering with various local non-profits to host events community service events for the community. Today, co-founders Alexander Hadik and Josh Shiau are working with our local partnerships to validate and add features to the site.
